Government Reform
"We must make certain that government works for the people of Virginia and not against them. We must always be open to responsible ideas to reform government and make certain that it puts the people's interests first."
Government Reform
Government is supposed to work for the people of Virginia, not against them. But as Ronald Reagan reminded us, "Sometimes government is part of the problem."
Throughout his career in state government, Bill Bolling has looked for ways to reform government and make it more user friendly, and he is continuing to do so as our Lieutenant Governor.
Making Government Work For You Program
Bill has put forth a series of responsible proposals to make government work for the people of Virginia, including:
- Creating a bi-partisan redistricting commission to help draw legislative district boundaries
- Creating a bi-partisan, merit based system for selecting judges
- Creating an independent state ethics commission
- Requiring all executive boards and commissions to provide live video of their meetings on the state web site
- Allowing Virginia's Governor to serve two consecutive four year terms
- Allowing Virginia voters to cast a no excuse absentee ballot
- Prohibiting lawyer legislators from representing clients before state agencies
- Require greater disclosure from lobbyists on the clients they are representing and any expenses they incur entertaining legislators
