Bill Bolling's Accomplishments in the Senate of Virginia
While serving in the Senate of Virginia, Bill Bolling developed a reputation as a common sense, pro-business, conservative. He consistently promoted lower taxes, less regulation and a smaller, more efficient state government.
As a Senator, Bill received a 100% pro-business rating from Virginia FREE, as well as the Guardian of Small Business Award from the National Federation of Independent Businesses. Bill understands that we must do everything we can to make Virginia the most pro-business state in America.
Bill received numerous other legislative awards from organizations such as the Virginia Manufactures Association, the Virginia Sheriff’s Association, the Virginia Association of Health Plans and the Virginia Coalition for Open Government.
As a Senator, Bill Bolling sponsored 137 pieces of legislation. Some of Bill’s most significant legislative accomplishments include:
- Welfare Reform
- Sponsored legislation to implement the final stages of welfare reform in Virginia.
- Kids First Campaign
- Sponsor of Governor George Allen’s Kids First Campaign, which cracked down on dead beat parents.
- Health Care
- Sponsored legislation to create a children’s health insurance program in Virginia, which is now providing basic health care services to thousands of children in low income families.
- Sponsored legislation to reform Virginia’s Certificate of Public Need laws and lower health care costs through increase competition.
- Protecting The Environment
- Sponsored legislation to reduce the amount of garbage being imported to Virginia from other states.
- Sponsored the Environmental Stewardship Bond Act of 2002.
- Supporting Small Businesses
- Sponsored legislation requiring an economic impact study before new regulations could be imposed on small businesses in Virginia.
- Sponsored legislation to make health insurance more affordable for small businesses

- Sponsored legislation to create the Freedom of Information Advisory Commission and rewrite Virginia’s Freedom of Information laws, assuring greater public access to information held by government agencies.
